Sometimes, to write a short story, I need to write three to get one. I am never fully satisfied that I have written the one I like.
The good thing about this is that, I can develop and edit the ones I don’t really like and eventually they become a short story. It is just like creating artwork.
The short stories I like best are the ones I can write in 20 to 30 minutes and it flows effortlessly in the first draft.
A new short story is coming this week – that’s a deal.
Thank you so much for your comments Laura. I don’t think you are doing too badly, writing from your heart. I always ask my older son if I would upset him and his brother if I wrote about certain things. Your children are always honest with their opinions. As for the actual narrative, I tend to describe everything as the story takes place to “show” what is happening. That way, I hope that the reader can live through the story with me. I do read the story out loud afterwards and if there is a point where I get lost – I know the reader will be lost too. It sounds like you have lots of fun with your grand-baby. 🙂

Well I’m excited.. fiction is the hardest for me. Idek why.. I guess because I lost my imagination to the television way back. It has started coming back though.. slowly. The Grand baby helps, and now that I’ve come back to the world I was always so afraid to expose myself in.. the writer’s world that is. You people just keep inspiring me more and more everyday.. its so heavy my head is in a fogg when I’m not online trying to process it all. Thanks for your post, my head got a little heavier. I now have to figure out why I have this block, and fix it. ugh. 😉 But I will I think now, and thanks again, so much for the help.
