BIG BLUE EYE: It washed ashore on a South Florida Beach to become one of the year’s weird stories. Now we know: It came from a swordfish. CREDIT: FLORIDA FISH AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION COMMISSION
Gino Covacci was walking peacefully by the sea on December 9, 2012 when he found this gigantic, monstrous eye still oozing blood. He contacted police and then the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation. Eventually the mystery was solved that it was a swordfish’s eye. Covacci’s find became known in the media as the Big Blue Eye.
What an amazing thing to find on the beach! Now I can’t help visualising a one-eyed swordfish swimming around out there. lol. Seriously, I imagine the eye was from a dead swordfish, but what happened to the rest of the body is anyone’s guess – a victin of fishermen, maybe?
Hahahaha – oh Millie, you’re funny! The eye caught my eye, when I was scanning through articles online. It is a weird but interesting story – I also had all those questions running through my head. Just think – what a plot you could build with this one eye Millie? 😉 I will leave it to your wild imagination and we can exchange swordfish tales later. 😀
I think we could all write an excellent mystery story around this one, JL. It conjures up all sorts of images for a start. Perhaps you should start a new challenge… ‘Swordfish Tales’ 🙂
Impressive find
